Orton Gillingham has been called the "Gold Standard" for teaching dyslexic children. It is an approach, not a method because it is flexible to the individual needs of the child.
I provide private, Orton Gillingham multisensory tutoring in the areas of reading, spelling and handwriting in my home. I teach all three of these areas simultaneously. I am Orton Gillingham trained and use this approach with all my students. Orton Gillingham is truly multisensory in that visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile pathways of learning are used simultaneously. The Orton Gillingham approach directly teaches phonics and the logic of language. It was developed by neurologist, Dr. Samuel Torrey Orton, and educator, Anna Gillingham, specifically for the dyslexic student. Your child will receive individualized instruction according to his or her needs. I work closely with you, as parents, in order to best help your child. A minimum number of 2 sessions each week is necessary for the instruction to be effective. Each session lasts 1 hour. Please contact me for rates, available time slots, and more information regarding tutoring for your child. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. |
Dyslexia is a language-based learning difficulty. It is not due to either lack of intelligence or desire to learn. With appropriate teaching methods, dyslexics can learn successfully.

Myth: Mirror writing is a symptom of dyslexia.
Fact: This is common in the early stages of writing among dyslexic AND non-dyslexic children alike. Many dyslexic children who do not make reversals are often delayed in being diagnosed or even go undiagnosed. |
